Featured Decorative Brass Waywiser

Google tells me this is a waywiser, is that correct? It does work but I am certain its purely decorative. I found one on Ebay they say it is Franklin Mint and have it listed at 999.00. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Franklin-M...933165?hash=item341a34476d:g:z04AAOSwuENd5dHp

Mine has no markings anywhere that I can find. It is only 9" tall not including the stand. Thanks for any help!!

 

What an interesting piece. I always felt Franklin Mint gets a bad rap. people forget that long ago they had wonderful quality . That Ebay price seems ambitious,but they all do to me lately.

 

yeah I think 999. is quite out there. I am hoping someone may be able to find another example. I have been looking for a week. I think if it were FM I would find another somewhere. And since that seller calls it a surveyor's wheel and I think it is a waywiser, its a touch search, but I am not giving up!

 

I think eBay seller is describing accurately what it is, they just do not establish how they know it is Franklin Mint & price is, uh, aspirational. Aren't FM items usually marked? A bit like the things Van Cort Instrument Makers produced, but not theirs.
