Picked this up in Buxton a short while ago. It's Delft I think, or pretending to be. It was one of a pair but the other one had a shattered base. Didn't want to split them but didn't want to spend an extra fiver for something that has suffered catastrophic damage. There was also a porceleyne fles ash tray for £3, that looked like it had been split into at least three pieces. I had 14 minutes to dash across town and catch my train tick tock so I just grabbed the one candle stick and ran.

    It could be German made.
Does this kind of thing sell in the UK?

Generally I don't buy it unless it's Fles or a bit different. This seems a bit different or maybe I've bagged myself another lemon.

Fles means bottle.:D We Dutch love bottles, but we call this maker by its name, De Porceleyne Fles, the Porcelain Bottle.;)

A bit for sure; it wasn't as readily exported here, and American taste ran more to British exports for a long time.

Could be French, there is something just not right for Delfts, and frankly the quality is bad.
Several northern French manufacturers imitated Dutch Delftware, especially in Desvres. The French manufacturers often used fake marks, so they were out to fake, but their ware has become interesting in its own right. Because of that the value of your candlestick could be higher than if it was just bad quality Delfts.;)

Looking more closely and the blue isn't even tin glaze. Looks like paint.

    :(
Maybe part of the decoration is authentic, and someone "enhanced" it with paint?

Similar attempts at enhancing have been done before::angelic:
