The other day, I unearthed a large cardboard moving box that was buried behind some of DH's computer junk in the attic. The box was labelled with my name, and the words NOT PRIORITY. Apparently, I took that wording seriously, because when I OPENED the box, I found tons of stuff wrapped in The Washington Post newspaper from MAY 1996!

Almost 24 years later, I guess I'm finally getting around to it now.

Among the "treasures" I've unwrapped thus far is this toy "chicken truck". (I remember exactly where in Maryland I purchased it in the 1980's: it was in Frederick, at my favorite antiques mall in those days.)

As best I can tell, this truck is unmarked. It is made of metal, with those fluffy chenille-like Easter chicks & ducks in the back, with a yellowing plastic cover over them:

    Inside, with cab removed:

While looking for info about it, I came across a VERY ambitious eBay listing for what I believe is the same model, but in much worse shape:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Vi...ck-Lorry-Litho-Print-Collectible/264618111573

    It is listed as:

Antique Vintage Old Friction Tin Toy Chicken Truck Lorry Litho Print Collectible T-1
    Friction working perfect
I would date it 1950's, Made Unknown.
Over all good condition, see all pictures.
    (whoa!)

Is anyone at all familiar with this truck? Is that seller's 1950's date correct?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

I know little about toys, but my SWAG would be 60's & made in Japan. BWDIK :rolleyes:

It is cute & I can see why you bought it back in the 80's.:happy:

Thank you, Peggy! That could very well be... Sort of reminds me of something I might have had as a kid (but I didn't!)

Although the model doesn't mimic any specific truck, that is not 1950's styling. Early 1960s Ford F100 is close. A shot of the front end might help. Dennis

For one thing @verybrad just got through with selling a load of metal cars/trucks, I think....check with him! For second thing, I'd not hesitate to check with Noel Barrett..... "toys@noelbarett.com" he'll let you know....I think they're looking for stuff for their auctions all the time!!!! Yours looks pretty mint!!:rolleyes:

Thank you, Aqui! I was just thinking about all those toy trucks Brad's been dealing with! Maybe he (or one of the co-workers) would know a bit about this one. I'll have to ask!

I'm not familiar with Noel Barrett, but if I decide to sell this, I'll send him a message!

    Thanks again.

Yes, indeed, flipper! As I mentioned up above, it does look like something from my own (1960's) childhood! Farm stuff was big then, too, as I recall. I remember that my sisters and I had a toy tin litho barn with fencing and a ton of plastic farm animals to populate it. I used to love that set!

INH, I'm thinking it very well could be one of those Japanese copies of something that were so prolific at the time...

As I mentioned to flipper above, it does seem as if it would have gone along with the early 1960's farm-themed toys that were so popular.

Gotta love the front license plate - that probably wouldn't even be allowed now a days. ;)

KSW, they're chicks & ducks (and maybe a turkey...) - definitely NOT to scale!

    Newer than you think....

They say 70s. Probably on in to the 80s when we started seeing these Chinese retro tin models in the marketplace in force.

Thank you, Brad! I'm so happy that you found that listing! (Here I was, looking for CHICKENS & DUCKS - I should have known to call them "FOWL"!)

    Thanks again!
