Hi I wondered if anyone could help. I know my item isn’t antique and I’m most probably the only person who wants it but it is 130 years old and I wondered if anyone knew how to clean it up? I worry I’d cause damage or use the wrong cleaning products. It is a dinner knife from a very well known mental hospital. I don’t know how to tell what it’s made of. Like I say I know it’s not antique but I thought someone here may be able to advise what I should use to clean it up or if I should just leave it as it is.

It's hard to see the details. I made your photo full size but it's still small. Any chance of taking another one?

If it's 130 years old, it is an antique.

I would start to clean it with warm soapy water. Don't let it stay wet - dry it with a soft towel.

If there is corrosion you might try a soft toothbrush.

    Is it silver-plated?
