Featured Do you recognize the maker of this platter?

I was hoping someone might recognize the shape/blank on this platter. 16" x 8". Would this be considered an ice cream platter? Thank you.

 

Really no good reason to say so, but you might check Kahlo (Germany).

Thank you. I just did some searching under Kahla and I don't think this is one of theirs. They did use that circular base but their blanks are much more simple around the edges.

Is the size right for fish?

 

It's funny you mentioned that, I'm looking at fish platters right now. They seem to be longer than this, 20" to 23".

 

Great minds - same wave length.

What I find odd and rather like about this; is that the roses are well past their prime. Even the foliage looks rather wilted.

Color of the rose looks like the Peace rose.

Do you think the platter is older than the late 30s?

 

Those aren't hybrid tea roses, and some of the old ones looked like that. Ladies painted china in the Victorian era, but the art was revived later in the 50s. Short form - no idea. I think this is your rose, just don't ask me the name.

I started searching the roses too. I found this Belle of Portugal Rose that has petals like those on the platter. One of these links dates it to 1903. I did think this was older than 1930 but I could be wrong.

Wow, what a beautiful platter! But someone should explain to me what an ice cream platter is and why you would put ice cream on a platter instead of a bowl? Even home made ice cream back in the day?

 

Hi. Your platter could also be a dresser tray that had matching containers that went with it.

 

If it were a dresser tray, wouldn't it be scratched to bejeekers? Unless the matching containers had felt on their bottoms.......

Oops, I apologize Ola, I mixed up the responses about the ice cream platter and dresser tray.

I hope to have some time this evening to go through some books and see if I can find the blank. Do you think this could be a hobbyist piece?

Have you taken a loupe to it? See any dots for pattern, that was then hand painted?

 

I did look at with a loupe and it is hand painted. No sign of transfer dots.
