I had limited time with this item and might not get it in the house clearance.

However, it was on the end of a cane which was too delicate for a walking cane but resembled a swagger stick. possibly Asian - Indian
    Cold to the touch.

Edit, it could be rude :rolleyes:

    It is beautiful, Davey.
The style looks further east. Japan, China, maybe even Vietnam.
The material is impossible to tell for sure without a close up.

Yes perhaps, I know its difficult without testing, I think it might be a Komodo dragon.
I might persuade them to leave it in the house for me.

Wrong tail. It looks more like some kind of monkey to me.

Definitely a monkey, one of the reasons I considered Japanese, they love monkey carvings.

My vote is for young lion with a snake. It's those paws! The snake's tail starts by the lion's back foot and comes up by his tail. Even though you can't see it, I bet there's an icky (technical term) snake head on the side that's not shown. Very cool piece, Davey!

You're right, the paws are more feline.

I've taken some more pics now I have this piece.
I'm sure its a large cat, it has huge canines.
Looks to be fighting several intertwined snakes or serpents.

It has a large number of holes were I think precious stones were inlaid, these have all gone.

    Hum... I can't see any thumbs:cyclops:;)
Thinking more a feline, and those hair on the fore arms look like belonging to a lion without mane:)

EDIT! Oops just saw there is a consensus for lion :D
