Hi, I have come across this small oil painting, picked it up because I liked the scene and it cost me next to nothing.

Just wondering is anyone can shed any light on it. It is signed 'MR 74' on the face and on the back, on the sticker it reads 'M Roberts 1943'

If the 1943 is meant to be the date, I think it is slightly off. As after a little digging it appears that the company who manufactured the board it is painted on, was not trading until 1946.

Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks Cervorn

It’s charming. I have no information on it. It’s something @charlie cheswick would probably like. He’s in the U.K. Also.

    Cervorn,
If M. Roberts is the artist’s name, I have not found him/her to be a well known listed artist. Some people have had some luck by checking ancestry on names. Even an obituary stating painting as a hobby. It’s quite charming, but I haven’t found anything of note. Enjoy it, :)

With that distinctively gray hair, I would tend to lean more towards an "elderly gent" and his "dawg" ;) ......still a nice early painting from the looks of it......

This looks very much an amateur effort and may be a copy of some other painting, possibly from a print or reproduction.

It is unlikely you will find any info on the artist.

Getting AWAY from AGE :)(shucks, I'm too durn tired to keep going, although it would be FUN, Komo!!!), artist has feet/legs in opposing perspective......closest one should be larger, etc. I STILL LIKE IT!!!

*Thank you* for saying that. I looked and looked at this yesterday and my eye kept travelling to his feet thinking something didnt look quite right but I couldnt figure out what it was...you nailed it.

Regarding age considerations...he could be wearing a powdered wig..

Does anybody else get the feeling he is wearing a "swiss army blanket" under an over coat?

I see him as a mature man, very different from

I would call the style primitive. Where are the dog's paws? If they are walking on snow, why doesn't the man also sink in? What's in his right hand? Stick to throw for the dog? It does have its own charm, despite lack of technique.

I have to laugh, I see an older woman with a bad leg balancing herself while walking her dog:D. (I even seen a pendant around her neck). I find it to be charming and naive.
