    Hi All!

My husband and I recently found this cabinet in a storage locker we purchased and I’m not sure what it’s for. It sort of looks like a secretary but the hand painting on the front makes me think it goes in the kitchen area somewhere....any thoughts? I can’t tell if it’s old or new and just made to look old. 11F7F1C1-D063-4013-93C9-2AE6C6A74F44.jpeg D9BB8A56-B69E-496C-85B9-051DCDCE0AE8.jpeg 6D95D810-0313-40BB-BFA6-CB2FE543E4D9.jpeg 14AB0C03-79CC-49C6-AB2B-6F4C009FFE7C.jpeg BEB45AFA-9F9A-49A4-AB1F-EA4CF7D95EE4.jpeg DF1990F0-186A-4992-88D6-BA02E71AED12.jpeg 6031EFB2-615B-4EB0-ADF4-80AB14C0C732.jpeg 41730BFD-9833-4689-A956-C7CD2E6A42B8.jpeg 431149DC-8F0B-4C5A-A4FD-86580595DFA1.jpeg

I wouldn't call it a secretary because there is no writing surface. But it does look like it might be useful for storage in a "faux French kitchen," 1980s-90s style. Cookbooks and linens, etc.

Everything about the hardware says made in the late 1900's. (See the latch pieces that hold the doors closed both top and bottom.)

Agree not terribly old. Hard to say what it would be called. Definitely see this as a kitchen piece

Copy or 'take off' of old French bread storage pieces. Agree newer

To me, it looks as if someone had way too much fun eating his/her way through the bake shops of France, then wanted to have a reminder in the kitchen back at home!

As Patd has said, the piece is sort of a play on a French bread cupboard, but it isn't one (no ventilation, for starters...)

There are DIYers out there still doing things with similarities to this cupboard - albeit most are probably nowhere near as "fancy" or intricate as this one.

Here's what a lady on Pinterest did with a plain, 1950's cabinet:

...and you can even buy stencils for some of the wording:

Crystal, I think your cabinet could look great in the right kitchen (perhaps not a Property Brothers kitchen, but maybe some place a bit more "country") - useful, in any case, especially in a kitchen that lacks storage space.
