Very nice, charlie. I wonder what shape shade went on it. I'm sure it will look spectacular when complete.
Flying fish. Also common fishy theme.;)

But an elegantly frilly one.;) That is good in a way, the attention goes to the fishies.
I hope you can find a replacement, there are specialised shops, aren't there? At least there used to be.

Yeah, there used to be, I've bought replacement ones before, I usually see them around so might get lucky to find one that fits

    Frilly or not :)

    There's a fish with those fan-like fins...but don't ask me what it's called...

I doubt whether either of these shades is original. And if not, gives one a little leeway to please one's own eye and sense of proportion.

interesting, think i definitely prefer it with the frilly one, might look better actually with a coloured chimney

Too funny. I actually "don't love" (to use Vogue-speak) the frilly chimney. (I called it a shade above but, of course, you're right.) Think it's distracting from base design but... not for me to decide. Yellowing natural result of age, by way. There are hints on internet about how to remove but dunno if they work/are advisable.

And funny to think that not terribly long ago every home had oil lamps in multiples.

That sea serpent shape was also used by Bagley and Sowerby.

With that hint of yellowish green I'm wondering what would happen if you put a UV light on it.

I thought the same Laura, but it doesn't react to uv

Oh darn. I always try it when I see that color sometimes you win sometimes you lose.
