Doulton's Elaine dish...what WAS it?

    I say WAS because it's all cracked:(
    So, just for curiosity, what was its purpose? Casserole? I can't find anything shaped like it, in Doulton's Elaine.Measures approx. 9" x 9" x 3 3/4" high. Thanks for your time.

    Maybe a covered casserole missing the lid?

    Square baker? low heat of course - bread pudding?
    From the looks of it has definitely been put in the oven for heating. Or used in the warming oven consistently.

    Thanks cluttered, much appreciated, yes it does show a lot of use. Wonder why I can't find any others shaped like this.

    There's a rectangular one currently listed, with a lid.
