I bought this about 15 years ago for $20 at a garage sale. The owner knew nothing about it other than it had belonged to her deceased aunt. No signature found. It appears to be oil on board but WDIK.
Age? Any ideas about how to research it any further? Should I even bother? I realize that paintings like these are still being produced today.
No matter the outcome, I think it’s beautiful and it fits well with my decor.
(Please excuse the occasional stray cat hair.)
Size, including frame, is approximately 16.5 inches by 20.5 inches.

It reminds me of paintings I've purchased that were modern, factory paintings. Some are nice quality. Here is one of them with what is very similar board. Sorry for the photo quality but my phone doesn't have the best camera.

In the mid 80s I used to be invited to parties where art was sold and you got to choose your frame.
That's what this picture reminds me of.

    Nice decorative pieces.
I think the subject matter, should you decide to sell, will do well. Ladies like roses.

Hmm, I was thinking it may be 20th century living room art.
Oh well, I like it and consider it $20 well spent. The colors are beautiful!

Certainly looks like a modern decorative painting from China to my eye. Note how the Arabic numerals are written by someone with an originally Asian hand.

This is a modern interpretation of a traditional 17thc Dutch "flower piece", (vase of flowers on a ledge) produced for the interior decorator market. I'm not sure if these were made in Holland (I always assumed so) or in Italy. They turn up from time to time sometimes in oval frames. Some of them I've seen go back almost a hundred years although mostly they date from the 1950's on through to the end of the 20thc.
Once Chinese decorative paintings flooded the market, I think the industry producing these artworks in Europe petered out.

This could also be a Chinese piece of course! Corner detail bracing on the back of the frame looks more Euro though ...

And the numbers look like I could have written them. It could be argued that I have an Asian hand. Maybe two....

It is a nice painting, bluumz.

The frame appears to be modern.
