Dyed MOP (Edited) Pendant & Marks

I would appreciate some help in finding the right search terms to learn about this pendant. Each section has a different opalescent colored piece of something, that I can't identify. (Edit: Cheryl knew it right away as dyed Mother of Pearl) I think there are marks, but they are so tiny (almost invisible without magnification), I couldn't get a focused photo of them close up. It has a sterling base and an Italian sterling chain. If you could start me with the right language to identify the components, then I might be able to track down the maker or maybe not. The pendant without the bale is 1" by 1/2" wide.

In the photo the "mark" looks like a gas bubble.

I bought it for casual wear. I think it is a nice size and it reflects the light in different ways. I figured it was modern. I just couldn’t figure the materials. I’m glad you like them too.
