Featured Edged Weapons - Appraisal Process

Discussion in 'Antique Discussion' started by Ruskoinabiscuit, Jun 21, 2021.

  1. Earlier I posted on how to get my sword collection appraised and sold and it was suggested to start here and post pictures of my items. So thanks in advanced. I have a lot to go through so I’ll start with the two I actually did get a verbal appraisal on years ago from an Antiques Roadshow sword expert. He said these are worth $800 each because they have all of the leather.

  10. Sword 3 I know very little about. It appears that the handle for both the blade and the knife are made out of antler.

Amazing and thorough job posting these Ruskoinabiscuit! They look super: authentic and legit. I'll leave it those more knowledgeable than me to offer comments.

I will say that for future swords you may not need quite so many photos for us here, but if you're taking them for appraisal anyway, then have at it!

Also, what did Antiques Roadshow tell you with regard to age, origin, etc?

  18. Man I don’t remember it was so long ago… he said they were African and that it’s rare to see them complete like this. Usually they only have the leather strips (not the actual leather panels hanging down) or no dress at all - just the sword and the scabbard without any additional leather features - he said one blade looks original and one looks like a European remake but still very old. The price range for the incomplete ones he said was around 200-300 but because these are so complete and rarely come up they could fetch up to 800 each. Even with the European blade. He was pretty blown away by them I remember him saying he's never seen them so complete before

  20. Sword 4 I believe is an English Rapier - it has some beautiful work on the blade itself. and an Eagle on the gaurd
