Elephants made of paper? w/chinese stamp & signature

    I found this at a thrift store today.
    Has anyone seen anything like this?
    Looking at them with a magnifying glass I thought I saw a shadow under part of a elephant; could these be paper?(if it is does this style have a name?)
    Or is it a painting or litho?
    Can anyone tell me who the artist is?

    Definitely looks like a paper cutting to me. I think that if you look carefully, for individual scissors marks, you'll be able to tell if it was hand done or more massed produced.
