After nearly 30 years of operation, one of my biggest local antiques shops is closing its doors for good. After the end of next month, the business - indeed, the building itself - will cease to exist.

I showed up today to see HUGE red and white signs on the windows announcing their Closing-Down Sale, and loads of things inside were 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50% off.

    I went scrounging for bargains.

After considerable exploration, I came away with this beautiful 1940s railroad chronometer pocketwatch, made by the Elgin National Watch Co., freshly serviced by the dealer.

It's B.W. Raymond, one of the company's flagship models.

While the store may not be there much longer, at least I'll have this to remember what was a major part of my childhood...

If it's a favorite store, take some photos inside and out while you can.

I'd been going there since I was a teenager. One of my friends used to have a stall there for many years. Then he retired.

That is a great looking watch and memory piece from your favorite shop. I have my Great Grandfathers Hamilton RR watch and had it serviced. Nice to share with my kids; allowing them to hear the ticking what their 2 Great Grandfather would have heard every morning after winding.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@Shangas, Mos is right! If you don't get some great pictures, down the road, you'll only wish you had!!! SO, DO it while you can!!!!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Thanks for sharing, @Shangas -- Great memories there. I like the suggestion to take photos!

There's an antiques fair down the road from the shop today. I might go and photograph both...if the space on my phone will let me, that is...
