Featured Enameled Trinket Box

    Bought this little "box" over the weekend because I liked the girl on it.
    It's maybe 3" in diameter

    What would you you call this type of work?
    I dont believe it to be cloisonne nor champleve.

    What era is the box from?

    What were these used to store?

    If she is a geisha, who is in the background?

    Cold painted enamel on copper.

    She is Chinese, the dress is a hanfu style (Geisha are Japanese). It is in the Canton style and looks to be a late 19th century example. I don't think the pots had a specific purpose, they were made for export to the West.
