When the National Stolen Art File was set up many years ago, I had great hopes that it would make it easier to keep from buying items that have been stolen. I’ve done a few searches and found nothing even in the general category of the items of interest, and I’m 100% certain there are many such items known to theft victims and law enforcement. So I have no faith in the NSAF.

What do I do particularly for items located outside the US, to have done my “due diligence” to avoid getting involved with stolen items? Certainly those with sufficient verifiable documentation aren’t a problem, but most items I find simply don’t have that.

Thx, at AJ’s link there are some country-specific lists then recent, recovered, and unclaimed. Nothing for general stuff except for the 108 items on the recent list. So unfortunately this list isn’t very comprehensive but nice to know it is there.
