I just purchased what I think is an etching and I was hoping someone might recognize the artist. It was purchased in Phoenix. Thank you for any comments or information. I have no idea about the artist E. ? 63 and I think it is titled Tragic.

Apologies, I cannot read the name. It looks to me to be an aquatint etching, probably an old art school project. The edges of the plate were rather overly cut but perhaps not well filed, looks like student work.

To my eye, the title reads 'Fragil' or 'Fragile.'

That's interesting. Have you opened up the back to see if any information inside?

Not worth a fortune but certainly worth having.

Here is a little Bio that was translated from German:
Eduard Franoszek was born in 1935 in Neudorf near Kattowitz. After two years of study in Braunschweig, he came to Berlin in 1959 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Fred Thieler, with whom he also became a master student. Franoszek is one of the co-founders of the artist group "Großgörschen 35". In 1975 he was appointed to the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Eduard Franoszek died in Berlin in 1995 after a long illness that had a noticeable impact on his life and work.

Do you think the title is perhaps 'Tragic?'

There appears to be a penciled in quote mark after the title. Not sure because the photo is cut off. Good you found the artist! Classic example of when opening it up is worth the effort. :joyful:
