I've had this sat next to my coffee table for a while now, as I can't find anything out about it. I initially thought Chinese but now I'm not so sure. It depicts other ceramic pieces with latin writing on. Sadly something jumped off the coffee table last week and chipped the inside of the rim. Does any one have a scooby do what it might be?

Think the pitcher pictured says 'VINEGAR', so other one is probably oil.

'ace' as in acetic. Ah yes. I've googled 'aceum' and 'olvulp' but not got much back. It does fit though.

Think it's olivulp & probably olive oil. Other has something to do with thistles? More oil, I think. Kind of looks like a mortar of sorts. Apothecary equipment?

Oh yes. You can even make out the spiky plants on the bottle. Thanks for making sense of something that made no sense.

I feel your pain about the chip. I take such good care of my possessions and the only two times I've had an item damaged is when a visitor picked them up and then put them down really hard. One was the rim of an antique Chinese ginger jar - the only REAL antique one I own - and chipped it. The other was an MCM tiger mama with two cubs attached by chains. My friend grabbed it and picked it up and the cubs clanked together and chipped the ear on one. Those were my Mom's and had been pristine. :(

Oh no. Awkward moments. I'm my own worst enemy. I am clumsy and have things all over the place, due to lack of space. My coffee table is completely packed. I shoved something to buy some space and in turn something else fell off the edge. It's a constant battle to keep the clutter down. So much so that I keep telling myself I need to give it up.

Yes it looks like it depicts apothecary jars. Maybe a novelty item for a pharmacy?
Word of the day: Albarello = apothecary jar.:playful:

I don't understand why people feel the need to pick up someone else's possessions without permission. Little children are taught not to touch other people's things, maybe some adults should be taught too.
Look and don't touch, how difficult is that.
Same here.:arghh: Which is why I stopped collecting Chinese porcelain a long time ago.:(
