I thought it was likely a fake but it was worth a speculative bid. It has arrived now and is not porcelain but a quite thickly potted earthenware almost like a pearlware.

It is finely moulded and nicely hand painted very much in the Hocsht style of the 18th century although the puce decoration is a little hurried. Nonetheless it is a very attractive piece.

Any thoughts on the date and maker? My thoughts are French c1880-1900 from the same factory that produced the excellent Veuve Perrin copies that I used to see around regularly (not seen any for a while).

    What do you think?

This is a very similar mark John, if of any help to you? No info about it though unfortunately :(

It is a copy of the genuine Hocsht mark that was done in red, blue and gold but apart from the very earliest pieces which were faience , all their output is porcelain. This is deliberately copying both mark and style and we’ll probably never find out where it was made. Lot of work went into it though.
    Thanks for looking

I've been told that it is Samson of Paris late 19th century and, since being told that, I have found a number of pieces online with the same mark and similar decoration. I had always known Samson for their copies of Chinese Armorial and other famille rose pieces but hadn't been aware of their copies of Hochst. We learn every day.

Glad you managed to attribute it. It's a nice piece anyway.
