This French Art Deco terracotta "Fertility" sculpture is by Bruno Zach (6 May 1891 – 20 February 1935) and is an original piece from the 1930s which has been heavily copied and faked in more recent times in order to dupe the unwary. The forgeries (mostly in bronze) often find themselves being sold on eBay for anything between $350 - $700 USD however original bronze examples of this particular sculpture command prices of over $3000 and so if prices look too good to be true they most probably are!

Of course it is not always easy to establish 'Fake or Fortune' as many phoney items are produced by the forgers to resemble the real thing in every possible way. In the instance of this particular sculpture there are several indications which determine its authenticity: The original examples are slightly smaller in size, are less detailed, and terracotta examples were never signed or maker marked.
