My mom loved this framed print. I kept it after her passing, but when I knew I was moving into a much smaller house and didn't have room for such a large picture, I tried to sell it at my moving sale. No interest. Since moving, I have put it out every year for my annual garage sale. I still have it. No on even looks and it's only $20.

Yes, it does. My mom theorized that since the father is looking at an empty chair, and the mother's anguished expression, they may have lost a child recently.

'An Empty Place.' I think the mother is missing. That's why a father is cradling the child in her stead. And that's an adult's chair, not a child's chair.

I should add that infant mortality rates were high in the late 1880s and the loss of a child wouldn't be unexpected.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Looking at the Pinterest image, it looks to me like the woman with her back against the wood, would be the wife/mother, but maybe even an older child could have passed.....

A much grander frame. The value is mostly in the frame, not the print.
