Fede rings. They have been around since the Romans and were common in Europe throughout the Medieval and post Medieval periods as betrothal and friendship rings, gaining popularity again in Georgian times and are still made today. So, how to date one with no hallmarks?! The closest I have come to this one stylistically has been 15th or 16th century Italian examples but it's so 'clean' i'm loathe to call it such and am thinking it's more likely to be a Georgian version. Though... it does have wear, some of the niello work is missing and it's seen a fair bit of life plus it has faint tool marks inside. Arrrghhhh... much head scratching later and I still can't decide. Probably Georgian...

Love the ring, but I am in the same back and forth as you are.

What i find interesting about this one is that it appears to have some form of 'cuff' or glove that extends over the back of the hands, picked out in niello, though much of the niello is missing.
