Can anyone tell if this is two females or a male and a female? And would it be hand painted? I know, I am an artist an I cant tell. LOL Locket2.JPG

I think that's a male and a female. I always see these described as Limoges-style courting lovers. I think it might be an applied design, which is then hand-painted over.

Rococo era-inspired image often referred to as a "courting couple." Male and female. Won't be hand painted. Won't be French (although inspired by French art.) 1960s from the look of it.

I tend to think also it's probably a male/female, but if it is a male, he's got an awfully fluffy set of 'bloomers' on!!!!! Best I could do trying to enlarge it....since it's not very sharp to begin with:smuggrin::smuggrin:

We would suggest that might be the bottom half of a jacket,
not pantaloons... over-the-knee britches with stockings, and
a vague resemblance to a tricorn hat, suggest to us the image
is meant to evoke a late-17th, early-to-mid-18th-century scene,
well past the pantaloon era... just our half-baked take on it...

These "courting couple" scenes can be found signed "Fragonard" but they are not reproductions of his work. They can only be described as "inspired by" in the very loosest sense of the word.

It is not handpainted but a transfer/decal. As Debora said, probably 1960s, could have been made anywhere in the world. It has many siblings.;)
Ever since the days of Fragonard there have been revivals of the romantic Fragonard style, during which many 'Fragonard' transfers appear on porcelain tea cups, jewellery, etc. Angelika Kauffmann is another favourite.
