Filthy little painting, but is it something?

I picked this painting up the other day. It's really dirty, but it looked old, and maybe decent underneath. It is oil on board and measures 9 1/2" by 13". I just realized that odd little shape of red in the tree above the boat was candle wax and scraped most of it off, but it left a red mark. As you can see, there are two good size scrapes on it.
I don't see a signature - I plan on taking it out of the frame this afternoon.
On the bottom of the frame, on the back, someone has written "Scene in Colorado" with a pencil. Something is also written across the top of the frame but I can't make it out, even with my light up magnifying glass.
Sorry about the crummy pictures - I just seem to get worse at it.
Any and all ideas and information are welcome. Thanks!

Thanks. I have more pictures but the mouse on my laptop is going crazy and it's hard to do anything but type right now.

Some clue to age, if board was new when painting was done. Don't know when you could last give an NYC address as corner of X & Y. Fulton & William are in the downtown, old historic part of Manhattan.

There's a subway station below Fulton & William now. And an art supply business could not afford to be in the neighborhood. The last was Pearl Paint.

What's it doing? I had to redo the settings on mine yesterday after being on a page of this site.

Bookahtoo, this might not be the problem, but it sounds like it probably is: open up the underside of your mouse and use a fingernail to clean off the little bitty wheels inside...

That is charming. Can you post a close-up of the writing?

That assumes a track ball mouse & is good advice. When my optical mouse gets scatty, first thing I do is blow out any cat fur in the 'eye', which always fixes it. Yesterday, after changing the setting for how many lines the mouse jumps when I scroll, for good measure I took a hatpin & picked out the fur accumulated next to the scroll wheel. Since I had also had to change the batteries, cleaned the fur out of that compartment too. How does it get in there?!

    I don't actually have a mouse, I have a trackpad - I just forgot that's what it's called.

The pointer won't follow my finger on the trackpad - it jumps all around, or is slow, or goes where it wants to. I tried attaching a wireless mouse but I don't like it.

I love machines, but hate when they won't work properly.

I will ask DH to take photos of the writing - hopefully he'll be able to get better ones.

And I hate trackpads. Should be settings for it in computer's tools. When my mouse goes wonky, the settings look fine, but I change them, then change back & does the trick. Worth a try. :)

Well, the trackpad seems to be working again...for now.

Here are some photos that DH took of the back of the top part of the frame:

I'm hoping that some of you can do that magic trick you do with these pictures so the letters all of a sudden pop out! :)

It doesn't look like a Coloradoan scene.

Maybe it doesn't say Colorado, Debora. :hilarious:

Very possibly but I -- for one -- can't read it. Sorry. (Charming nevertheless.)

I thought I could, but looking at it here, I'm not sure anymore!

Jivvy the research is my favorite

That's some tough writing there... I mucked around with it, but...

Could be "Colorado"... *squint face* but it looks like there might be a "y" on the end... but it's the wrong size? I dunno.

The other bit. Starts with "Cl" ... "El" ... maybe "L" next bit "Mo???"

I hope you find something when you take it out of the frame.

    Of doubtful value:

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Book, is it a USB mouse that has a couple of triple A batteries that need changing???? Or if it's a 'touchpad', I have no suggestions!!
EDIT: Just saw.....that hour late and dollar short again!!!!!:wideyed::D:smuggrin:
