Well I only have two of them but I am really obsessed with this one. The design is so dynamic and well-proportioned. The carving is delicate but the petals are rather bold in shape so than the jelly texture of the material stands out. a9e4602194d2f7a74a09efceb97af7cc.jpeg 87b69f7d5637fdf83994e3a914a03999.jpeg a7aa1eb25270215894a80b9226c48284.jpeg b26ade2e8f621c720b7f0a20d5854e29.jpeg obidome is designed for kimono but they could be easily converted to brooch and slider on chocker for modern and everyday wear. This is the only traditional jewelry in east Asia that I regularly collect, they can be worn in so many ways!

Beautiful pieces shammie, and amazing crafts(wo)manship. Thank you for showing us.:kiss:
Yes, it is a piece of jewellery that goes on the obijime (obi cord). The obijime holds the obi (waist band) in place.

Better late and in this condition, than receiving it one day after purchase and getting this https://www.antiquers.com/threads/mikawachi-saucers-bowl.88610/

I can related, had one stupid seller wrapping a victorian tortoiseshell box in envelope then arrived cracked. Not expensive either, just cannot stand a careless seller ruining a perfect antique as if it’s made of plastic .

Oh yes chrysanthemum:happy: I am indeed eyeing on a similar white piece to pair with my orange one! But the right one with matching size and shape is hard to come tho, like this one you posted

I had to go look to see what the backs look like. I don't think I've ever seen one of these in person of any sort.

mine looks like this. They started their life with two hoops to allow the cord to go through, but were frequently converted into brooches

The conversion makes sense, since formal Kimonos aren't worn much any more.

Think they wear it a lot in Japan tho, it’s just not for everyday, and obidome’s potential as chocker silder, necklace clasp, and scarf ring etc. needs to be developed

I'd wear one if I had one, and had occasion to wear it. I saw a picture of a wedding kimono in high school and thought "I want that!" (and then never got married, which figures.)

I enjoy looking at others wearing it but never fancy one for myself haha. Most traditional outfits are just not neutral enough for my style ;) and I wear all my antique jewelry on shirts or jackets
