~ Fire Extinguisher Bracket? ~

    Trying to ID this scrapyard pick. Cast malleable iron. 11 inches tall and the inside bore when closed is about 7-3/8 inches. Leather softeners riveted inside may or may not be original. Partial mark inside brass latch.

    My best guess so far is a fire extinguisher bracket for use in a public or commercial building, or perhaps a commercial boat. Haven't found anything similar in my old catalogs yet. It'll barely stand w/o toppling, so it had to be bolted down. It doesn't really look like a fire-truck item to me.

    your idea seems pretty sound...but i can't help feeling that it's a little overkill to be bolted to the floor , unless it was on a ship or train...:confused:

    I'd buy that and as Komo said though I'd also think it could've been used on an older fire engine for a quick grab while leaping off. Edit> Here's something similar.

    1935 Seagrave fire truck. This one is single-legged. I didn't think it was substantial enough for this application, but apparently was.
