So far I've just looked through The Big Book of Buttons by Hughes & Lester. I didn't see this button (I'm not the best at using this book though) but I did find this information on the company. If correct, it would appear that your button would be prior to 1894 as it says they were still in business after that but no longer making buttons.

I looked through Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland without seeing this exact crest. There are several that are paws (lion?) holding something but none shown holding a star.

Actually with that information, going back to Fairbairn's it matches up. Using the name Prettyman, it shows the lion paws holding a disc but includes a "mullet" in the description. When you look up what a mullet is, it's a star.
