Fishermen is this a Fish Decoy ?

I didn't know which forum to ask about this old fish. It is 7.5" Long and solid. Would it have been a fish decoy? It looks like a hook was in the top and there are dowels or pegs on the bottom.

 

It is somebody's crude home version of a decoy. The bottom bits are lead for ballast, would have had a wire in the top holes. I doubt it has much age. Looks like the kind of crap made for feebay.

I never heard of a fish decoy. You learn something new all the time here.

Guess What ! I just found out about them a month ago. There were some really old ones on an online auction, I got out bid. If you do a search some
signed ones bring a good price.

Another thing to search for! Being a Pisces, I tend to collect fish items. Wait...I'm trying to declutter, not collect. Tsk.

 

Fish decoys were/are made for use when spear fishing through the ice. It doesn't seem Suzy's would have been weighted if it wasn't made for actual use.

They do put weight in many of the fantasy ones

This one was made to catch an ebay buyer not fish

I think he was mounted on a wood dowel on an oval wood base ....sort of a decorative fish lollipop......lol
