Flat, Carved Wooden Elephant, Wing-Like Ears; Raised Trunk, of Course

~16" long, ~6" wide at the ends of the ears. It weighs ~75 ounces!
The trunk is 2 pieces, and inserted into the head ~an inch forward of the brass eyes. The tusks are rusty ~.200" steel rods, the ears appear to have been carved separately & inserted, similar to the trunk.

Perhaps the groove on top of the head is meant to depict the two domes on the head of an Asian pachyderm. If that's so, why the exaggerated ear size, which on the Asian version are smaller than the African? Hard to know what wood it's made from; there's a red finish over all...but the weight suggests teak or mahogany, or some other tropical hardwood. And, yes, there is a carved, featureless an' almost de-emphasized tail, which I have failed to capture.

Have any of you seen anything similar? Is it 'Tribal'? It's posted here 'cause there's nowhere else for wood stuff. Thanks for lookin'!

 

I've never seen anything remotely similar. Have to say that the design is pretty cool though and can see why you purchased it. It reminds of 1920s or 1930s for some reason. Could be completely wrong, but just has sort of an older stylized look about it. I think it's very cool!
