Flea Market Painting Find

Today I picked up three interesting paintings at a local flea market. One of the paintings is a nice work on canvas by Heinrich Pfeiffer which is signed Harry Pfeiffer. The other two I’m still researching and believe the signature could be hidden under the framing. The painting with two cows is on board and is quite interesting and seems to be well done. The other is on wood board and has some damage but seems also to be well done. I was told that the paintings were acquired from the same owner at an estate. I’m hoping someone may have someone can provide some help on dating or identifying the mystery paintings. I’m probably going to attempt to remove both from the frame this evening to see if I can find a signature. Thanks for the help.

The frames look like good quality ones to me, maybe a good sign.

Shunkpenn, it wil be interesting to see what you find out, so please post whatever you learn. Others from Antiquers will probably post, too. Weekends tend to be slower in the forum.

    And welcome to Antiquers. :)

The images are a bit small, if you had larger versions, they would be nice to see. I just love the trees in the one with damage.

FYI - The artists Heinrich Pfeiffer and Harry Pfeiffer are 2 entirely different people. The style of painting of the one you have does not look like Heinrich's work.

Too bad about the damage on that one. Those trees are frighteningly alive.

I think the Pfeiffer is the most technically accomplished. The others seem more Sunday-painter-ish.

I stand corrected. Maybe there is a second, older Heinrich who showed up in my search.

I found at least two... and I'm not sure if there are more because they're all mixed up - what with it being the internet and all.

I don't see any that I'm convinced are a signature match, but the three sigs that I ended up with all use that uppercase block print. Could be the same, but who knows?

It is a shame about the damage. I just added a few more picks. Although, the style on the two cow painting I find quite interesting...

Am I blind? I'm only seeing one "F" in the last name.

I think I found a signature earlier on Skinners which was a match.

I mean of course at the end of the last name. Sure looks like FER, not FFER.

I think the top one in my example also has only the one F... so...

Apparently he signed his name sometimes with the one “F”. I’m attaching a photo of the back.
