I found this Focke's Pure Lard 4 lbs. by The Wm. Focke's Sons Co. Dayton Ohio. I was unable to find it. Its missing both the lid and the bottom but does have the wired handle. Its dimensions are 5 3/4" top diameter, 5 1/4" bottom diameter and 6 1/4" height. I was wondering what it might be worth and if it was rare. Thank you for your assistance in this request. Rob

That is awesome picture. I know what the lid looks like and this looks to be in great shape. Rob

The part about using St Bernards instead of horses was interesting.

I don't know what is worse St. Bernards or horses. Sounds like it was made for dogs because it was too small for horses. Wow. Rob

    Neat item!
Frankly, I can't imagine that it could be worth much -if anything at all- since it's missing both the lid and the bottom, but I'm no expert. :)

I will find out when I put it up for sale. I think it went out of business back in the 1970s. Thank you for the thoughts. Rob

Just a general observation but there are lots of old lard tins out there. I see them frequently at auctions, antique shops, and even have a couple myself. People must have saved them for some reason.

Is this still available for sale? This was actually my family's business and I have been searching for the lard can...any condition.

I did not, but it looks like it has sold. Seems to be the going trend with these! I've been searching on and off for a couple years now. Just came across some old family photos of my grandfather and great grandfathers and thought it would be neat to find one!
