Foot mannequin clothing store fixture

    Here’s a strange but, I think, interesting thing I found today - a “foot” store fixture. With a 1932 patent date on the sole, I believe it was intended to display the new-fangled elasticized socks that had just been invented, in 1929. Before this, socks were all held up by garters, so these new elastic-topped socks were a big deal!

    This fixture is from a longtime clothing store in the town where I live, that closed down. They were going to throw it in the garbage bin.

    In period documents, it's called a "hosiery form."
