It was very hard to photograph the mark on bottom. What I posted is the best of about 7 attempts. It says "TINN HANDBIEDE" and a "4" plus what looks like a crossout of another mark but it could actually be the mark itself. It measures twelve inches long by seven inches wide, although if you extend the rings at the end it measures 13 & 1/4, which would be important as they may be made for hanging it in functional use.

It has a small dent in it which I wonder if I could hammer out with a small padded ballpeen hammer pounding on a thick cloth. I saw someone do something like this in restoration with many, many tiny hammerings. Anyone ever do anything like that or know more about it?

tinn håndarbeide is Norwegian for tin handwork. I like it.

I ditto what you said as Norwegian pewter came up when I did a search a few days ago but wasn't sure since it was very different than them. Do you know what time it may have been crafted?

So, this would be made of tin and not pewter?

No, it's pewter. Tinn is the Norwegian word for pewter.

Pewter is an alloy with 85 -95% tin content.
