Footstool or Dressing stool?

What would the differences be between a footstool and dressing table stool. This was my grandmothers. Don’t know what the wood is or the style or period. Also don’t know what the original cushion was. This is granny’s needlework and by the look of it my mom attached it with a piece of plywood. I’m thinking to replace the cushion with a nice table top. Your thoughts. Cheers A140F727-1343-40BC-AC25-40445560EF8C.jpeg 15B3CFE4-35B4-44BA-AAF8-2243DD22E15B.jpeg 75002967-36BC-4CC1-9906-7B36F2DD8133.jpeg

It's needlepoint and quite a sweet design. These were often done from a kit with the central floral motif already worked. Like this one.

I think that 14 3/8 in is too short for a vanity stool. I vote for foot stool.

Not to mention what use you could make of a 15in tall table?

I don't do numbers but... From the proportions, I'd think so too. Vanity stools tend to be wider and narrower.

If you are replacing the cushion, maybe you can keep the needle work that your grandma did and mount it. Still looks in pretty good shape.

It would make a very attractive pillow backed by velvet.
