I have heard these called sister hooks. But I'm finding that isn't their correct nomenclature. The long pin is apparently to pass through a clevis or shackle attached to a wire-rope life-line at a stanchion. One is marked 7/16, but the pins are 1/2" diameter. I am, obviously, without clue...Please tell me what these are properly called.
The size-reference coin is a Kennedy half dollar...Thanks for lookin'!

Will be interested to learn correct term. I have a gold baby bracelet with a clasp just like this (without the bolt & cotter pin.) Much easier to manage than a dog leash type clip.

No matter the size, these depend on tension for their security, like a pelican hook; slack allows the two halves to separate

The baby bracelet is different then, relying on friction at the joint. Have seen what you are describing as a pelican hook used to pick up lengths of railroad track, closing with the weight, releasing when load set down.
