Found a match for my jester door stop but it's black & called a clown - is mine real?

    I reread it & saw it is black painted cast iron - is mine cast iron? Bronze/brass? (how do I tell the difference?

    There are quite a few out there of a similar figure. Some seem to have a separate base. One auction cites a book (that I don't have) in case you can find it for reference. Another says it was "Cast iron Chinese Boy doorstop, made by Jones Hollow Ware Company, 9 3/4"

    "Cast iron painted doorstop, "Chinese Jester", 9" Ht.. Ref: The Doorstop Book, Smith p. 231."

    Here is a page from the Jones Company in 1927 with what looks like your doorstop.

    "Hollow Ware" is the cast iron cookware Jones Hollow Ware Company made from c.1850 to c. 1960. Jones Hollow Ware Co. made Cast Iron Stove Hollow Ware / Andirons / Doorstops, They are listed in Merchants and Manufacturers Association of 1917. One way they sold their Doorstops was advertising in "Hardware Buyers Catalog". This was catalog like today's Thomas Register that lists companies by what they make In the catalog, their products were listed under "Hollow Cast Iron"
