So as I am starting to downsize my stamps, baseball cards, postcards, old photos/advertisements, other ephemera and coins that I just accumulated, I found this in my box of coins. I had know idea of its rarity prior. Sent it off to be graded and just got it back yesterday. I dare say it qualifies as an antique :). Figures out of the coins I sent in, it had to be the lowest grade of them all :hilarious: but what a find. So just learning that only 100K minted with a 30% survival rate. Will put it on eBay soon but just wanted to share that we all probably have special items buried somewhere in our possession that we don’t even know we have.

    thank you for looking

Great find! I'm sure most of us will resonate strongly with your conjecture...I certainly do! Thanks for sharing, Marco!

According to the NGC Price Guide, as of March 2025, a Morgan Dollar from 1893 in circulated condition is worth between $3000 and $90000. However, on the open market 1893 S Silver Dollars in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $1250000.

In 2021, a PCGS graded 1893-S Morgan dollar in MS-67 sold for US$2,086,875.00.

Today’s apps available are amazing to say the least. Was using coinsnap to catalog my coins. Just take a picture and bang just like that it id’s it(occasional inaccuracies). When the price came up on screen my jaw dropped.

‘oh it’s going to be a gonner, :hilarious:

Can’t say that I didn’t consider it , but at this stage of my life, no children and current health issues, it is going to be better appreciated in someone’s collection. Maybe if I were younger. Here it will just get put back in the draw :hilarious: and slightly forgotten. It’s not a high grade but very coveted in the numismatics world. Not a lot of them can get one. It deserves a better display. imo

Monetary value aside...I absolutely love that patina. It developed in such a cool way.

‘thanks, me too. Wondering just how many thumbs this has past though that wore it down :)

Here are 2 more from different grading companies as most believe PCGS is tops. I beg to differ when you see them side by side.(just playing in my research, :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:)

I suppose AI will do the grading in the future ?

If I may ask, can you explain the proces of grading? How expensive is this? I have a hoard of silver dollars and halfs I've done nothing with. I was thinking of trying to organize and sell these myself but am finding the task daunting and it keeps getting put on the back burner. I am guessing most are not worthy of grading but there may be a few.

Edit: I see there is now a separate thread on this.

Truly Whit-Then the question is-how do you find an honest AI !?

The AI itself is honest, but 'ware the company programming it.
