    Hi Everyone,

I got these recently and need your help to describe them please?

They were described as vintage, does that seem right? Also what are they made from?

My father thinks the studs/rivets (not sure how to describe them?) were put in after but I think they’re original? If someone could clear that up I’d be grateful.

They both have writing on the back of the frames. One is much easier to read than the other but think they both say the same “sent to auntie Gracie & her sister Elizabeth something? No date)

I would really love to open them up to read what’s written inside but I’m not going to mess with them.

Thanks for any help. And sorry for the sideways photos. These were hard to photograph.

I have no doubt they are vintage. A lot of crafters repurpose old greeting cards and postcards into works of art. I know of a few postcard dealers that set up at craft shows to sell their "cute/pretty" cards that can be repurposed into art but are very common and are thus not worth much as postcards.

They appear to be antique, not vintage as they would be over 100 years old. I think the rivets were put in by the framer to give them more dimensionality. It did them no favors.

I agree, antique. Curious exactly what they are though. Notice the little cloth tab on the "Greeting" one off to the right (best seen last photo). Almost like this was meant to be used to lift the first page up.

    A couple of terms:
    • Die-cut
    • Embossed
The standoff were definitely added by the framer.

I am "flowerly-challenged" but does the "Compliments of..." bouquet appear to be upside down in relation to the lettering?

The handshake was popular, for obvious reasons:

Commonly called "calling cards" & would have been left on a small tray in the foyer. As others have said these are commonly used by crafters to make decorative items.

I think it says “Compliments of the Season”.

Thanks for clearing up the rivets/ standoff debate.

I did feel they were older
