I've been wanting a quality lavalier and finally came across a pretty little one at a good price. 14K and made by Frank Krementz, relative to the better known and more prolific Krementz jewelry company. Anyone know much about Frank? Seems he made a lot of lorgnettes.

Frank was the younger brother of George who started the larger company. George was born in Germany in 1838, Frank was born in 1854 in Indiana. Frank was also a jeweler for what appears to be his entire adult life, also living in New Jersey as did George.

Dog tooth pearl and amethyst. NICE. The extra scratches look like an insurance mark.

@komokwa if previous owner lived in the U.S., we were all encouraged to scratch our social security numbers into valuable possessions back in the day, as a theft deterrent. As if. UGH!! But there you have it.

I think my folks started but never finished...

Where? I didn't catch that. But, for what I paid, no matter. :)
These are seller's photos, I don't have it in hand yet.

    I remember that, too.

I often wonder if just having a social security number is of any use to a crook if they do not have any other information on the person.:confused:

If someone bought something from an estate sale it usually isn't too hard to figure out the person's name & then go from there.

However, if you bought something at say a flea market, antique shop or somewhere else that had no connection to the original individual how hard would it be to connect the dots.

For me it would be impossible because I am not smart enough to figure out how to do it.

I am sometimes utterly amazed at what I have found over the years in boxes of stuff cleared from a house. Everything I have ever found has gone to the shredder, but I know there are those out there that either use the stuff or pitch it into the trash at most.:facepalm:

@bluumz - BTW - That is a beautiful pendant & sorry for off topic post. It is just something I have wondered about for a long time.:happy::happy:

I found very few examples of Frank's jewelry, though lorgnettes abound. The few jewelry pieces I did see appear high end. Frank doesn't seem to have crossed over into costume pieces.
