Fratin Bear

    I found a keeper at auction.
    He's bronze and stands 6 11/16" tall.

    No foundry mark and a degraded artist signature leads me to believe it was a recast, made after his death in 1864.

    Here, he's reading "The Press". I have only found two other statues of this scene, one used a German titled paper "Kölnische Zeitung" and the French paper "La-Patrie".

    Something funny was done too. The stein was moved from in front of the stool to under it. He's now reading the morning paper while using a chamber pot.

    Beautiful piece,he did some wonderful grotesques ! The piece below -

    I saw it was more than just a cute bear. It was described as a bronze clock topper. :woot:
