    Hi,
I have a couple of items I need help with.
#1 is a French Gras Bayonet. There is a number on the handle, 22269 and a different number on the scabbard 29876, plus lots of other marks. This is not a set as the numbers are different? Does that make a difference to the value? It is 25 3/4" L, the blade is 20 1/2"L. Marked on the edge of the blade 'Mre d'Armes St Etienne 1880 - I can't make out the letters before 1880. Do they made reproductions of these?

#2 is some kind of gun - no marks anywhere. It is 15 1/2" in length.
I'm not sure if this is real or just for display.

I have no idea silver, but I only have the one.
There are notches on the metal piece by the trigger - maybe each one indicates a win for whoever was shooting.

    It's in rougher condition and not cased with tool....so don't expect the $900 US....but hey.....That's a nice find !!!!

The bayonet is genuine enough, no doubt about that, if not very valuable.
The flintlock pistol is no duelling pistol and it looks as if it may be genuine from about 1820 by the butt shape, but it also looks a pretty cheaply made item. I can't really tell from the pictures if it is the real thing or a realistic replica, but it also looks as if there is a hole drilled through the barrel, which would pretty well ruin the value if it were genuine. Tell me it's not so.

I really can't go with the 'notches on my gun' sort of thing. No one who is a big enough a-hole do do that sort of thing would be likely to survive one fight, let alone half a dozen.

Probably the work of some later owner who had seen too many westerns.
Usually the owners of flintlock pistols fired the one shot, missed and used the thing as a club.

I would think the bayonet is authentic too ...

What's that white circle in the picture?

    Is there no ramrod?

Thank-you komokwa & af. The white spot is a paint drip, no hole drilled in the in the barrel and no ramrod.
The one in the link looks similar - the butt handle on mine has a circle/link thing on it. Just read the link - this is a lanyard ring, has been removed in the other gun. I'll have to double check to see if they are some marks on mine.
I must admit I thought is was for decoration or display, not a gun that could fire.

Thanks again for the link Komokwa - I was comparing the two pieces and have found a mark on mine, same place as on the one in the link. Looks like DN but will have a better look tomorrow. DSC02755.jpg

The metal tip, under the front of the barrel.....does it move ??
    Maybe it's just cleverly concealed..

I received some help on a Military site for a bayonet and scabbard. They told me the bayonets and scabbards don't have the same numbers. The company that made the bayonet, usually didn't make the scabbard. Back then, if it fit, they used it. So those pieces you have, could have been together as a set.

Definitely research the scabbard. Some scabbards are rare and can be more valuable than the bayonet.

That is an interesting ad. Any chance of a close up (readable) of the flintlock picture.
