I got these at the pound stall this morning. Lots of items that don't sell on the house clearance stall get shifted to the £1 stall the following week. They look to be hand painted and signed 'Lecomte'. I was thinking of Paul Emile Lecomte at first. Similar signature but too different to be a match. The T is too long. I've just found this painting of a girl on eBay. The siggy is a match but no further info. I will pursue this line. Then there is Jean Jules Antoine Lecomte. Not a match but wow! Check them out. Amazing proficiency.

They are Commedia dell'arte characters, if that helps.

More likely a decorator than an artist.

The male one is dressed like (late 19th century interpretations of) an Incroyable or Muscadin, members of a certain French political/fashion subculture in the 1790s who were known for their wild fashion (and…interesting politics). There seemed to be a resurgence of interest in their style in theatre productions &c in the late 1800s. Found this post because I collect images of them—I hope that info helps!
