Looks like light oak to me, probably been painted and stripped which has given it that bleached look.
    We don`t do valuations here.
Its what you can get for it.

You could be right, could be a bit of European Pine in there too.
@Heidi1980 Pine is a soft wood, try pressing your thumb nail into the wood, if it penetrates easily then that is a good sign of Pine, do it behind a drawer front or around the back.

If it is mixed woods (oak & pine) that indicates it probably was painted originally and then stripped which, hurts value.

Oh do you know roughly how much this is worth? Say £500 ?

The wood is hard wood. I can’t put my nail into it?

Yes I’m in the uk, many thanks for your help. I’m sure it will be ok. I’ve bought it for my mother you see, with her money! Ahhh! She asked me to get in some lovely bits for the kitchen.. so worried about being ripped off lol x

Would not call that a linen cabinet here in the US. Looks more like a kitchen step-back or possibly even a store display piece. I see oak. May be other woods in there but hard to tell. The center piece with the knot looks a bit like pine but even oak can have a knot. Could see that going for up to $750.00 at retail here in the US but could also see it going for considerably less depending on the area and selling venue.

I see, Dear ol' Mom! Well, obviously you liked it so yes, it'll be OK! In America you found these cabinets in 19th century kitchens mainly because they were very handy, still are and, they are called "stepback" because "Called Stepback Cupboards because the top shelving piece sits "back" from the front edge of the separate lower cabinet, they are most often made of pine or oak." They might be called something different in England.
500 GBP is about $700 dollars here, I'd say that's reasonable, why are you so worried about getting ripped off? Just asking for research purposes on another thread.

A modern piece of similar size and purpose would cost a lot more, so if you're buying it for yourself you did fine. I took a quick gander, and saw similar pieces selling for $1500 new, and you paid less than half for an antique one.

Hi thank you for your replies. Was just a bit worried, as I’ve noticed a hole at the rear, that obviously someone has cut into Inorder to put electrics through! Idiots lol!
Anyway, because it’s a purchase for my mother I just wanted to make sure I was buying something worth the money, as she gave me some money to purchase some storage for the new place she is moving into as she has little storage! So as the Descison was left down to me, I decided to go for this!
She hasn’t seen it as yet!
My friend can fix the problem anyway.
    Thank you again.

    Hi,
A lot of those cabinets have small holes where mice have chewed to get in.
