Could not pass on this one, saw many WWI cartridges worked and decorated but this one was different.
I don't collect trench art usually but thought this one was cool.
The "Coq Français'' digging his talons into a German Eagle depicted on the cartridge.
    Shell is a 77MM ''PatronenFabrik''made in Karslruhe MRZ 1916. 9'' Tall.

Is the design bumped out further than the original shell diameter?

Ok...made my further investigation on this one, the circumference at the base at the bottom is 262MM.

On the top part ( ring) that is not worked( small hammer marks) the circumference is 250MM.

I took a measurment in the center of the cartridge where the pattern is and the circumference is 255MM.

On the pictures below i can clearly make out that the bottom was left alone and the pattern was hammered down all the way up the cartridge, the German eagle and French Rooster fighting seem to be standing out and they are, picture on the side shows that.
You can see the pic of the inside of the shell also, the pattern is pushed outwards.still seems all of the work was done from the Outside of the Cartridge.

The design is a French Rooster ( Coq) the French Animal symbol sitting atop an upturned German Eagle, the rooster digging his Talons in the Eagle's Midsection as if neutralizing him.

Thanks! INH - THAT'S AN EXCELLENT FIND!

When I first looked at it, I thought a rooster was hanging upside down dead from a rope on the right! And it still looks like chicken feet hanging from the rope, but the scene makes more sense after seeing the poster INH found.
