Featured Funky old UFO shaped brass whatsit - whatsit??

Part of some old brass furniture or decoration perhaps? I really have no idea. About 5" across, 2 1/2" high in the middle. The hole in the middle is 2 1/2" across. Not attracted to rare earth magnet. Any ideas on how old / where from / what is/was it? Thanks!

at under a pound it I still don't think it was that high off the ground.....on what ever pole it fit on......

It could be an Indian Dhokra tribal bracelet, they used to make them into ashtrays in the 60s and 70s. Someone could have punched the tray out, but missed a bit.

Funny it's a different design on each side, if I'm seeing right. Hmmmm

 

Perhaps part of curtain rod finial, or maybe too heavy for that.

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas! I bought this for a buck because I was curious what it might be or might habe been at one time - now to figure out what to do with it!
