    Have recently acquired a piece by what appears to be George E. Ohr...does anyone have any knowledge about this potter and his work? Am trying to determine if it is real....thanks for any help anyone can give me!

    There are loads of sites and articles dealing with Ohr available via Google. I thought I could just find one "overview" that would be a useful starting point for you, but there are just too many! Have a go at it yourself and see what I mean. He was a fascinating personality!

    I did read a bunch of different articles on him; a bit eccentric! But does have some beautiful pieces! I've been googling things for hours now

    Concern about it being "real" is justified. I recall an appraisal on Antiques Roadshow (by David Rago with a woman whose family lived near Ohr when he was still alive) that brought up this point because his work was considered strange and not particularly attractive back then. And then a lot was destroyed in a fire if I recall.

    Her pieces had all been acquired from him directly, so there wasn't a problem with those.

    Have you looked at the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum site?

    From Kovel's 2010 Price Guide-If authentic, worth a nice chunk of change! What are the measurements?

    Ohr pieces have been often faked, or even altered for desirability - would suggest contacting Rago, no charge to look at it...

    Doesn't look right to me. Despite being pretty thin, it doesn't look thin enough. Also, the G in the signature is wrong based on the few similar signatures I see on-line.

    I might add that I am no expert on Ohr so will be very happy for you if proven wrong.

    Please always post "all full size" images and give dimensions.

    Ohr's a sleeper, no question...

    @Missy

    Please provide some provenance. How did you come by it?

    You've given very little to work with.

    It means I think it's probably OK, right, by Ohr, etc.

    ...but you'll have to get someone who thinks they are an expert like Rago to say ok if you want the big price ..funny thing about getting things authenticated ...things owned by "authenticators" are ALWAYS "right" while other owner's things are often "questionable" :jawdrop: Wonder why that would be?:D

    Hi,
    Because so many unfired pieces by Orh where fired several years after his death and has been "passed off" as being done by Ohr. It is so convoluted I do not even touch pieces of Ohr. :oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:
