I've had these for some time but have not been able to identify maker or date. About 8 inches high and blown. The top rim is folded and uneven, the base of the bowl and the bottom of foot sharply cut. The rest is etched with flower design ans well as the Isle of Man coat of arms. Each glass is also etched, engraved with initials of the owners,
I think they are wonderful but would like to know more about them. Any information is greatly appreciated. IMG_1225.JPG IMG_1226.JPG IMG_1228.JPG IMG_1229.JPG IMG_1230.JPG IMG_1231.JPG IMG_1232.JPG IMG_1233.JPG

Lovely glasses - I'd call them baluster rummers and from the type of construction and foot, early to mid-Victorian IMHO. Nice having the Manx engraving, pretty special!

Note the hollow stems. They are unusual in that time period.

Why a family would let something like that go is beyond me. Must have been in terrible need of money.

Not the norm maybe but not totally uncommon - here's one of mine - maybe a touch earlier, but not much.

I looked at surnames on the Isle of Man and 1881 census results came up. There wasn't a single surname beginning with the letter A.

    Great photo blooey.

I see the N, now that you've marked it.

Just looked again. There are only two surnames with N. Nelson and Norris.

    Beautiful.
It could commemorate a marriage between A and N. Maybe A came from another part of the British Isles. Or further away.
Or a honeymoon on the Isle of Man.

I think N represents the last name.
If you look at the first glass it has TN on it.
