First photo: I have 2 of these old wooden crates that we had to use a crow bar to open. The writing translates to “Beware Glas”.
Second photo: you’ll see the straw packing we pulled out and all the glasses on the floor
Third photo: a close up of the etched pattern. All the glasses had the same pattern.
Fourth photo: the gold foil label found on most of the glasses. RIO is the pattern. I know this as I found only 2 other people with the same label, but their patterns were RUDESHEIM and MOZART. These are also names of cities in Germany. My brick wall is the K.S.S. initials. I cannot find any manufactory in the German Empire countries to match these initials. Nor can I find these pattern names except for the 2 sellers online. Have any of you come across this particular label? IMG_1808.jpeg IMG_1810.jpeg IMG_1809.jpeg IMG_1811.jpeg

KSS Glas is crystal glass manufactured by Spiegelau Glas, originally from the town of Spiegelau in Bavaria.
I couldn't find English language info for Spiegelau Glas, but this is a German Wiki page:

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiegelau_Glas

In short: Founded in 1521, they currently make 20 million pieces of glassware per year.

The decoration does not look etched, I believe it's wheel cut and left unpolished, that is why it looks frosted. They are lovely stems.

Spiegelau could be one of the initials on the KSS. I wrote to them a few minutes ago for info and a history.

I bet the company will be as astonished as you are to find some 50s glassware in its original packing, still sealed. That's a score, no matter what.

UPDATE: Heard again from Spiegleau, here's there's response on the crystal label:
    Dear Donna,
thank you very much for your message and the photos.
We have had this checked by our archive and cannot clearly assign the logo on the sticker to Spiegelau.
Enclosed is a picture of the oldest known logo.
However, it is possible that glasses that were even older or intended for export had a different logo. Unfortunately, we can no longer verify this.

    Mit freundlichen Grüßen
