Is it a religious thing? It had a jewel in the center that either fell out or was removed. Looks like it had a loop for a chain on the back that is broken off and some of the surface is gone. My mother had it in her jewelry box and I inherited it, but I've never been able to ID it. Just a Victorian necklace or part of a chatelaine. My daughter may inherit it so she can ponder.

I think it was a pin or pendant with a cross on it. It wasn't particularly religious, just a fashion item. The lady probably wore it on a high-necked blouse. It's too bad the stone parted ways and the finding broke off the back.

The cross is a bottony cross, also called a trefly cross. Button and trefoil, respectively.
It would look great with a faceted 'stone' in it. The original stone was probably glass, maybe red.

I have a lot of loose stones so I can find one to fit in. I also have some glue that's really strong so I could possibly attach a metal loop.
